2007 Conference

Sessions

“A sustainable future is one in which a healthy environment, economic prosperity, and social justice are pursued simultaneously to ensure the well-being and quality of life of present and future generations. Education is crucial to attaining that future."                                                                 -- Learning for a Sustainable Future's Website

The 2007 curriculum is centered around one fundamental question: What will you do next to make our world more sustainable? Throughout the weekend conference attendees will be challenged to find their answer.

In addition, having the conference located in Nashville -- "The Healthcare Capital of the U.S." -- presents a unique opportunity to explore the business of health. A special track has been developed specifically to address this topic.

This year's tracks are: Corporate Impact, Leadership & Career, The Social Sector, Business of Health, Environment and International Development

Be sure to check out a special "Out of the Box" panel from the Saga Foundation on Friday, November 2nd:

Can business literally save the world?  The private sector’s role in averting nuclear terrorism

Warren Buffet has called nuclear terrorism “inevitable”.  A survey of national security analysts set the odds of a nuclear attack at 50% in the next five years. While this issue seems to be most often dealt with in the public/political sectors, businesses are recognizing the opportunities to get involved and work towards stopping nuclear proliferation.  Learn how business can take a role in addressing the most dangerous risk of our time.  The panel brings together leading specialists to discuss how business can be involved in this effort, with a focus on action-oriented and innovative ways to address nuclear terrorism.

Have the next big idea, but need to find a funder? Working on starting a non-profit after you graduate? Don't miss this opportunity!

The Draper Richards Foundation funds early-stage nonprofits that intend to grow. And we are always looking for the next great people to fund. We provide 3 years of funding ($100K per year), as well as technical support and counsel. Draper Richards has funded a number of Net Impact alum during the early stages of their growth including Tim Prestero of Design that Matters (Sloan School of Management), Chuck Slaughter of LivingGoods(Yale School of Management) John Wood of Room to Read (Kellogg School of Management) and Andew Youn of One Acre Fund (Kellogg School of Management). Anne Marie Burgoyne, DRF’s Portfolio Director, will be at the Net Impact conference and is interested in having interested social entrepreneurs “pitch her” on their organizations. She has 4 available slots and will award them to the people that appear to be the furthest along in thinking about their work and the most committed to pursuing their work upon graduation. If you are interested in talking to Anne Marie while you are at the conference, please email conference@netimpact.org.
