“Net Impact has enhanced my leadership skills, educated me on issues that affect our communities today, and guided me to the plethora of career opportunities that exist for students like me,” said Toral.

James Balch
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
Ohio State University
“Net Impact has given me the confidence and skill set needed to help transform business through sustainability”
Since founding Ohio State’s Undergrad chapter in August 2008, James Balch says Net Impact has become his forum for connecting with “a group of passionate people who share his belief that business is at the forefront of innovation to transform society.”
Through Net Impact, James says he has been able to interact with nonprofit and business leaders who believe responsible business practices are essential to good business. He was especially excited to land a Global Supply Chain internship with The Dow Chemical Company, where he had the opportunity to meet with the Chief Financial Officer and learn how the company is incorporating sustainable practices across the organization.
After graduation, James plans to find a job that unites his passion for sustainability with his knowledge of business.
Alexis Suskin-Sperry
Business Economics and Public Policy Major
Indiana University
“Being one of the thousands of Net Impact members motivates me and encourages me to make change happen, even when it seems impossible!”
Alexis Suskin-Sperry says her Net Impact membership has been an important way for her to connect with and learn from students and professionals around the world with similar beliefs and values. “Hearing about all the different corporate ventures and projects has inspired me and demonstrated that there is potential for each of us to make an impact in the world,” she says.
This past summer, Alexis traveled to Uganda with a team of four other students and a faculty advisor to work on sustainable community development with a nonprofit organization for women with disabilities. She plans to build on this experience after she graduates, and someday hopes to start her own nonprofit focused on sustainable community development.
Trish Kenlon
MBA Candidate
New York University’s Stern School of Business
“Everything I read led me to believe that Net Impact was a critical part of any socially minded student’s MBA experience…I was pleased to learn I was right”
As the leader of Stern’s Campus Greening Initiative, Trish works with a team of dedicated students, faculty, and staff to help her school operate more sustainably. She has led projects that include installing high-speed hand dryers in the bathrooms and a green roof on top of the business building. To support her efforts, Trish participates in Net Impact Central-led calls with Campus Greening leaders on other campuses, which she says is a great resource for sharing ideas and working though issues.
Trish also found a summer internship exclusively open to members on the Net Impact Job Board. She spent the summer of 2009 as a Climate Corps Fellow at TXU Energy, where she helped develop a strategy to increase energy efficiency at their corporate headquarters, and gained hands-on experience to help pave her way toward a successful career that combines business and the environment.

“Net Impact inspires people around the world by giving tools and sharing experiences”
Andres Villalobos firmly believes that business has the greatest power to transform the world, and joined Net Impact to support the movement. He says he can understand, looking around at the state of the world, how it’s easy to be discouraged. But then, Andres says, “you join Net Impact and talk to students, entrepreneurs, and employees from companies doing fantastic initiatives, and you gain hope.”
Originally from Costa Rica, Andres spent the past summer interning as a Strategy Consultant at Nestlé in Switzerland and India, and he will be attending an exchange program at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai. Andres is particularly interested in sustainable agribusiness and food industries and, after completing his MBA, plans to start his own company in Latin America.

“The interaction that I've been able to have with changemakers via local chapter events, teleconferences, and our national conferences have been crucial to getting me fired up to make change”
Calgary Brown recently left her job in financial services to re-focus her career and identify what it is she is truly passionate about, noting “Net Impact played a huge role in turning that light bulb on for me!” After listening to an Issues in Depth Call called “Adventure Dream Jobs,” Calgary had a "wow" moment, and vowed to start thinking more creatively about her career and how she can have a positive impact. “Net Impact helped me to be more comfortable about the concept of becoming an entrepreneur, where as before I would have never thought about this as an option for me professionally,” said Calgary.
As co-President of the New York Professional Chapter, she finds herself constantly surrounded by members who have launched successful company initiatives internally or their own businesses and organizations. Inspired to make her own positive social and environmental impact, she is currently building towards launching a business in the eco and sustainable tourism industry.

The Walt Disney Company
“I see Net Impact as an incubator of things and ideas that will truly change the world ”
Emily works as part of Disney’s corporate responsibility strategy team, which focuses on enterprise-wide strategy, reporting, business integration, and stakeholder and employee engagement.
She credits her Net Impact membership for getting her in the door at Disney, after she was selected for an internship from a large group of overall applicants primarily due to her active relationship with Net Impact. The internship helped her build connections in the company that eventually led to her current full-time position as a Manager for Corporate Responsibility.
After landing her dream job, Net Impact has remained a place for Emily to find inspiration and connect to like-minded individuals. “Everyone I’ve ever met through Net Impact—as a student or professional—is passionate and committed. They’re not afraid to challenge the status quo, and that inspires me every day.”
