The Sustainable Advantage: Creating Social and Environmental Value

November 13 - 15, 2008 : Philadelphia, PA

Philadelphia Green Economy Case Competition

Case Background

Over the last four decades, Philadelphia has lost over 400,000 manufacturing jobs.  These quality jobs helped make Philadelphia a world-class city of neighborhoods and homeowners.  Today, Philadelphia’s city government, the Sustainable Business Network, and leaders from all parts of the city are joining forces to develop a new sustainable economy based on green collar jobs that will help Philadelphia remain a great place to live and work.  The Philadelphia Green Economy case competition will ask participants to develop strategies to grow triple bottom line businesses in Philadelphia, particularly related to access to capital.  Cities nationwide have struggled to come up with creative solutions to providing capital to triple bottom line businesses that may not be appropriate for venture capital or other lending.  The strategies developed by participating teams will be used by the Sustainable Business Network to support the work of the Funding subcommittee on the Philadelphia Green Economy Taskforce.
