This year, the annual Bandhan event series organized by the chapter at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad celebrated its tenth anniversary. Spanning over five weeks, their five-workshop Bandhan Prelude series imparted the essential life skills of Passion, Confidence, Teamwork, Problem-solving and Leadership to 120 underprivileged children from three NGOs through a variety of creative activities. The series culminated on August 15th, India’s Independence Day, where the children showcased their skills acquired during the Prelude series to an audience of ISB community members and 300 other children from various local NGOs.

The event series is one of the biggest on campus, drawing in over 100 ISB students, family, staff, and faculty. An impressive example of strengthening community both within and outside of the school, the chapter kept a razor-sharp focus on keeping the events child-centric. “Everything was designed and executed keeping the needs of the children in mind. We wanted to create a platform for children to learn life-skills, interact with MBA students, make new friends and have fun.”

The chapter was also able to ensure that volunteers and children had a chance to nurture deeper connections by pairing them consistently with 4-5 students throughout the series. In the end, participants were awestruck by the huge potential each child held that could be realized with a little extra mentoring and support, which “pushed each one of us to think of ways in which we can equip these children with skills that will help them gain employment and solve the issues faced in their community.”

Just two months later in October, ISB Net Impact held another community-focused event, this time for nonprofits and social entrepreneurs. Their two-day capacity-building workshop, Diffusion, brought together over 40 professionals from 20 organizations. The event provided an opportunity for the ISB community to share business and entrepreneurial advice, and for professionals in the room to learn from one another. Their leadership sessions included negotiation, leveraging social media, impact assessments, and challenges in scaling.
