Join students from The Friedman School & Fletcher Net Impact for a guest lecture by MIT's Dr. Alexis Bateman. Dr. Bateman is the founder and director of the MIT Responsible Supply Chain Lab, and she is currently conducting research on environmentally sustainable supply chains and urban logistics.

Significant environmental and social impacts often take place in the deepest tiers of the supply chain that grow, harvest, or mine raw materials. These are the tiers over which companies have the least control; in many cases, they do not know the source and practices embedded in their supply chain because many commodities flow through a web of intermediaries and brokers. To shed light on the various challenges companies are facing in sourcing sustainable food and beyond, Dr. Bateman will discuss examples of problem areas, emerging regulation, company approaches, and the potential future of this issue.
