The SAW clothing swap is an exciting opportunity to bring attention to the topic of fashion sustainability during Sustainability Awareness Week while giving the students and the public an opportunity to attain a new wardrobe. The event will consist of a clothing swap, a photo booth, and an exhibition. Students will be encouraged to bring their unwanted clothing for the opportunity to trade in for “new” clothing. Students will however be forewarned that this is an opportunity to exchange clothes that have outgrown either their style or their bodies; any damaged or worn down clothes will not be admitted.

At the door the participants will present their clothing to volunteers who will ensure that the quality of the clothes is satisfactory. In exchange for their garments, students will receive a ticket which they will later be able to use to switch for “new” clothing; the exchange rate will be one ticket for every garment.

The swap itself is an act against fast fashion as the supporters will be recycling garments rather than wasting and further contributing the cycle of mass consumption in the fashion industry. The photo booth will add a fun element to the event and the exhibition will showcase innovative and interesting ways to style thrift clothing to encourage the public to continue to be sustainable.

If any students do not have the means to participate but would like to pick up some clothing, there will be a donation box for any participants who do not use all of their tickets. These extra tickets will then be allotted to the students in need. Any extra clothing will be donated to Millbourne Community Life Centre (MCLC), which works in one of the lowest income neighborhoods within the city.
