This moderated discussion will focus on addressing gender inequality issues including sex trafficking, rape, and domestic violence from a legal, healthcare, and social lens. Excerpts from two recently released documentaries - A Path Appears and India’s Daughter - will be screened alongside moderated Q&A and discussion. Dr. Raili Roy of the South Asia Center at Penn will moderate the discussion, and distinguished panelists will speak about their insights and experiences on the issues.

Rangita de Silva de Alwis – Associate Dean of International Programs at Penn Law with over 25 years of experience working as a women’s human rights scholar and practitioner
Zoe Timms – Founding Director of Women’s Education Project, a non-profit started in 2002 to help young women in South India from the poorest backgrounds succeed in college and careers
Dr. Anita Ravi - Family Medicine Physician and a Fellow in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at UPenn, focusing on addressing gender-based violence prevention and intervention efforts
