Global Controller

The Global Controller is a key role in the finance team, responsible for overseeing and maintaining accounting, financial reporting and internal controls across a number of entities, both nonprofit and for profit, based in the US and internationally.  This role is responsible for managing the collective finance and accounting teams and working collaboratively to ensure timely financial information is available to support monthly monitoring and strategic decisions. Reports to the Executive Director (ED).

Our preference is for this role to be a hybrid role, based in our Boston office, but fully remote work may be an option for the right candidate. Occasional domestic/international travel to other MASS offices may be required.

 Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for both oversight and hands-on accounting, financial management and financial reporting functions of multiple organizations, including cash management and maintenance of cost allocations. 
  • Ensures proper adherence to US GAAP, including consideration of contributed and earned revenue, and compliance with all applicable donor requirements.
  • Assesses and updates current policies and procedures to safeguard the organization's assets and effectively monitor cost. 
  • Develops, analyzes, and provides recommendations relating to accounting and financial systems.
  • Manages the annual external US consolidated financial statement audit process.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local requirements; monitors fiscal compliance with funder requirements. 
  • Oversees and leads annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the ED and leadership.
  • Analyzes financial data and presents financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, clearly communicates, and keeps the ED and program leadership informed of the organizations’ financial status. 
  • Collaborates with and is a strategic thought-partner with the ED and produces timely, relevant information for the Finance Committee and Board of Directors. 
  • Ensures proper supervision, support and professional development for the global finance team.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field. 
  • Experience with hands-on financial accounting and reporting and in making process improvements.
  • Experience with both nonprofit and for-profit business models.
  • Experience with professional service firm revenue models a plus.
  • Experience working with international / global entities. 
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills and ability to translate financial information into non-financial terms.
  • Experience with Oracle NetSuite a plus.
