Description & Responsibilities

Ceres is seeking an Information Technology (IT) Manager as part of its Information Systems team. In the short term, the IT Manager will play a critical role in the migration from Google G Suite to Microsoft Office 365 for 150+ users. This will involve the design and governance of file management systems, as well as the related use of SharePoint for a company intranet. As this migration involves changes to a broader productivity ecosystem for Ceres, additional consideration will be given to changes in email, calendar and related applications.

Long-term, the IT Manager will manage various technical aspects of our IT operations, including coordination of services with our managed services provider, oversight of hardware deployment/management of staff laptops, management of license distribution for supplemental systems (Zoom, etc.) and development of platforms for identity management (JumpCloud). Strategically, the IT Manager will monitor performance of systems, support user adoption and identify areas for improvement to inform enhancements to our systems and support strategies. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who enjoys technical diversity and designing systems to fit business requirements. This position will be based out of Ceres’ Boston office (temporarily remote) and will report to the Senior Manager of Information Systems.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Monitor performance of information technology systems to determine cost and productivity levels, and to make recommendations for improving the IT infrastructure
Help define IT infrastructure strategy, architecture, and processes
Analyze business requirements by partnering with key stakeholders across the organization to develop solutions for IT needs
Assess vendors and develop test strategies for new hardware and software
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to internal IT
Oversee procurement and distribution of hardware and software
Manage device replacement in the event of damage or end of lifecycle
Monitor and inform usage of productivity platforms (email, file management, etc.)
Design and implement file management structure (folder vs. metadata)
Short term: Consult and support migration from G-Suite to Office 365
Oversight and management of Office 365 environment
Support management of relationship with managed service provider
Triage and project manage incoming requests from users for system/feature changes
Design, develop, implement and coordinate systems, policies and procedures
Manage onboarding of new users’ general IT training (bi-weekly)
Identify and act on opportunities to improve and update software and systems
Identify opportunities for team training and skills advancement
Design training programs and workshops for staff
Build and maintain intranet
Support corporate adoption of Office 365, Planner (project management) & related integrations


Minimum of five years of work experience, with at least 2 years of experience in IT operations
Experience leading and managing large Information Technology (IT) projects and rolling out IT infrastructures across various technologies
Excellent working knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and phone systems
Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
Excellent project management skills and strong ability to prioritize
Firm grasp on IT infrastructure and operations best practices
Ability to translate technology information to non-tech colleagues
Interest in developing process improvements
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, in a fast-paced environment.
