Labor Capital Strategies Fellowship

Heartland Capital Strategies

The internship program is jointly run by Heartland Capital Strategies (HCS) and the Kalmanovitz Initiative at Georgetown University (GU-KI), groups committed to rebuilding cities and good companies, growing the clean economy, and making the "boss" more accountable and respectful of workers' rights. Here's the gist of it:

•LCS is an 8-week paid fellowship ($5,000) for the summer with capital strategy teams in responsible investment and impact funds, unions or NGOs; the stipend covers the cost of living in DC, NYC or other communities;
•LCS empowers students to gain hands-on experience working with progressive change organizations that manage or influence "workers' capital" (pension and impact investment funds) or that organize shareholder campaigns;
•LCS provides a range of experiences--from investing in affordable housing, ethical businesses and renewable energy projects--to supporting corporate governance campaigns--to aiding in communications work for union capital strategies staff.
Depending on the placement organization's needs, if you're able to read and analyze financial statements, understand corporate annual reports, or enjoy the challenges of helping distressed communities move toward sustainable, resilient urban planning, then you should definitely think about applying for the LCS Fellowship. The application is open to current students.
