The Opportunity

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation is a family foundation guided by the enduring business philosophy and personal values of Lucile and David Packard, who helped found one of the world’s leading technology companies. Today, their children and grandchildren continue to help guide the work of the Foundation with David and Lucile Packard’s enduring core values: integrity, respect for all people, belief in individual leadership, commitment to effectiveness, and the capacity to think big.

In 2018, the Foundation made grantmaking awards of approximately $350 M to organizations working on the issues the founders cared about most: improving the lives of children, enabling the creative pursuit of science, advancing reproductive health, and conserving and restoring the earth’s natural systems.

The Packard Foundation is hiring an additional Program Officer for the Organizational Effectiveness (OE) team, which invests in the core strengths of grantee leaders, organizations, and networks, enhancing their capacity to achieve their missions. This role will primarily support the Population and Reproductive Health program, with a goal of building stronger ecosystems and leaders in the organizations the Foundation supports. The new Program Officer will also attend conferences, trainings, and gather learning from the field on equity, diversity, and inclusion to inform the Foundation’s work with grantee partners.

Desired Skills and Experience

The Program Officer will have deep experience in organizational development and is driven by a desire to apply these highly-tuned skills in service of the grantees the Foundation supports. You are eager to support program strategies by strengthening the capacity of our partners on the full range of issues that the Foundation supports and are deeply committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. You are ready to stretch our thinking about how trends in organizational design and structure, networks, and information sharing. You have the same comfort level and enthusiasm working with Foundation leadership, colleagues, and grantees as you do with organizations ranging from large international development groups to small, grassroots, domestic groups. You have a broad and diverse network of colleagues, particularly in the leadership and organizational development fields.

At least eight years’ experience in the nonprofit organizational or leadership development field, as a service provider, a philanthropic advisor or practitioner, and/or as a nonprofit leader who has managed foundation grants is required.
