Making a Path (MAP) Guide

Welcome to your MAP program! Facilitating MAP for your chapter members is an awesome opportunity to build a more closely connected community as a Chapter Leader, while also guiding them through valuable exercises that will help to create insight and clarity along the social impact career journey.

As you begin planning for the MAP workshops, here are some tips and suggestions that will help you plan in the most effective and successful way:

• Once you have your first meeting with all members participating in MAP, you will determine together how many workshops are ideal and how often you want to meet. As a leader you know your chapter members the best so in preparation for this first meeting, be sure to be familiar with the purpose and intended outcome for each workshop so that you can guide your chapter with planning.  
• We suggest meeting for the workshops at a regular cadence, with enough time in between each workshop for members to complete the homework but too much time in between workshops that members feel disconnected from the group. With these points in mind, we’ve found that scheduling these workshops once every two weeks is ideal.
• When planning the schedule of workshops, please take into consideration other competing events that might impact the participation of the members, including exam schedules.
• While the MAP guide is meant to contain everything you need to facilitate and deliver a valuable workshop series for your members, you are also free to be creative and integrate supplemental resources that you’re familiar with and that you believe will enrich the workshop learning experience for your members.
• Remember that MAP is meant to be as much a leadership experience for you as it is meant to be a valuable social impact career experience for your members. • Have fun! MAP creates an opportunity for you to learn more about you while also discovering and deepening connections with your chapter members.
