As governments institute policies to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and businesses continue to incorporate sustainability into their core missions and operations, the top-down approach to sustainable living is receiving much attention. However, local communities have not been consistently utilized to a large enough scale in creating a more sustainable future. Just as many businesses have come to realize that sustainability is simply better business, incorporating sustainability into community development creates a higher quality of life, with more economic and environmental security. How can communities incorporate sustainability into all areas of their own development? What role does government and business leadership have in helping them achieve their goals? How do we create sustainable communities regardless of perceived geographic, socioeconomic or cultural constraints? We will invite a panel of local government, nonprofit, and business leaders to discuss these questions and more.
