The Collegiate Association of Unreasonable Social Entrepreneurs (CAUSE) is hosting a special event on Wednesday, November 15th to celebrate the International Day for Tolerance. This event includes a Civic Reflection where students can come and discuss the issues of intolerance in today’s society. The International Day for Tolerance purpose is to create awareness about the principles of tolerance. CAUSE will be hosting this event with the purpose to educate people about the need for tolerance on campus and to help students understand the negative effects of intolerance. We will be hosting a Civic Reflection session, a safe place to express everyone’s opinions and ideals on intolerance within our society. We will be focusing on justice and equality, as well as citizenship and democracy.
Along with group discussion, we also planned to have a guest speaker, Jocelyn Santana, to speak about diversity, tolerance, and social justice. CAUSE chose a civic reflection as the best way to celebrate the International Day for Tolerance is because it is personalized to each individual students as well as the impact it can make just to openly discuss sensitive topics. Civic Reflection broadly defined means reflecting on our civic actions, values and commitments. Civic Reflection discussions can help us talk more comfortably about values, think more deeply about choices, and respond more imaginatively to the needs of our communities in a safe space. In addition, all CAUSE members will be wearing Tolerance t-shirts on the International Day for Tolerance, November 16th.
