How to Support Local Businesses During the Coronavirus Pandemic

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold, many people are concerned about the negative impacts on small businesses. Will your favorite local business still be in business when the pandemic is over? While many small businesses are struggling, others are finding unique ways to stay afloat. And the good news is, you can help support your local business community during this pandemic...from home!

Here are our favorite ways to support local business during the Coronavirus pandemic:

1. Shop Online

Many businesses allow you to shop online or over the phone from the safety of your living room. You can also buy gift cards from local businesses to use when your community safely opens up again.

2. Eat Local

Many of your favorite restaurants still have their kitchens open...for curbside pickup or delivery. Make sure you order ahead of time to limit your experience outside and try to avoid paying in cash to limit the risk of exposure to employees. If you can, a generous tip will be greatly appreciated by the restaurant workers.

3. Offer a Good Review

A good review will help your local businesses now and later. Facebook, Google, and Yelp are all great options to leave helpful reviews to your fellow community members. Another simple solution is to give your local businesses a shout out, like, and follow on social media. And don’t forget about the power of word of mouth. While you catch up with your friends and family virtually, mention a great meal or service a local business provided for you recently.

4. Cancel Responsibly

You may have been affected by the cancellation of an event or appointment. If you can, consider not asking for a refund and think of your ticket as a “donation” to a business you are invested in.

5. Get creative with your support

There are so many ways to support your local businesses and connect with their owners and employees! Letting them know how much you appreciate what they bring to your community can go a long way to lift their morale during a challenging time. Examples include messaging them online, writing a letter or sending a postcard.

Now, more than ever before, it is so important to support your local businesses - and you can have fun while you do! Whether you order a delicious meal, add to your wardrobe, or connect with local business owners, your support will make a difference.
