A team of 3 MBA students worked with IDEA Public Schools to develop a feasibility analysis and pilot for Austin to implement a year-round school calendar beginning in 2016-17.

Business Issue to be Addressed:
A year round school calendar presents a numbers of opportunities and challenges for a school district like IDEA. There are implications for every part of the organization, including school staff (teachers, leaders), parents, program (curriculum, assessment), operations (transportation, food), finance, etc. This project will evaluate and address these factors by preparing a plan to pilot year round school in IDEA's Austin region staring in the 2016-17 school year.

Specific Scope for this McCombs Project
There is a team of school leaders at IDEA Allan College Prep who will participate in IDEA's Action Learning Project (ALP), a leadership development initiative, and work along side the McCombs group. The school-based team ultimately reports to JoAnn Gama, IDEA's Co-Founder and Superintendent, as the "client" for the project. Specific deliverables will be determined by JoAnn and the Allan team during the next few weeks and are likely to include a business plan for the year round school pilot for the Austin region.
